The U.K.’s national team’s World Cup bid is in jeopardy after a dispute over the cost of staging the games has resulted in a delay of the event.
Ahead of Thursday’s match against the Philippines, the U,L and Fixtures announced a cost of $10.7 million, but FIFA president Gianni Infantino said the money would not be spent on marketing and travel expenses for the games.
The cost of the World Cup will be determined by the International Federation of Associations (IFAA) and the host country’s FIFA executive committee, FIFA spokesman Peter Mascaro said on Thursday.
The World Cup is one of the largest international sporting events in the world.
It takes place every four years in four cities in the Americas and Europe.FIFA’s bidding process is expected to be completed in June.
If successful, it would be the first time the U.,L and FIJ are bidding on a World Cup.
The bidding process has been marred by allegations of corruption and bribery involving officials from the three teams that won the World Cups in 1996, 2002 and 2012.
The U.,F and L had been accused of accepting bribes from a Chinese soccer federation and officials of the 2022 World Cup bidding process.
The FIFA president was also critical of the hosting of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
He said in a tweet: “The U.N. is not doing enough to fight corruption in FIFA, where we are only looking to protect the integrity of the tournament.
There are already signs of corruption.
This is unacceptable.”
Russia, which hosts the 2022 and 2024 World Cups, was awarded the 2022 tournament.
Russia also is hosting the 2018 tournament.
