The NFL is in good shape.
The Dallas Cowboys are on top of the NFC South and the Cleveland Browns are back on the map.
But that’s not what most NFL fans are talking about when it comes to their favorite teams.
Josh Gordon and the NFL’s greatest players have been in the spotlight for months now, but there’s one thing that has been lacking from the conversation: The most talented players have not been getting the recognition they deserve.
The NFL’s current crop of elite quarterbacks is the league’s most talented, but it’s not the same as it was in 2015.
Josh Gordon and Aaron Rodgers had a combined 5,732 career passing yards and 10,072 total touchdowns.
Those numbers are all in the top-10 of all-time.
And if they’re any indication, Gordon and Rodgers are among the game’s most gifted players.
When it comes down to the top five quarterbacks in the NFL, Gordon is the clear-cut number one.
The former LSU All-American is the NFL standard bearer and has played at an elite level since his draft year.
He’s also not the only NFL player to have reached the Hall of Fame.
Carson Palmer has been enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of fame, while Joe Montana was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Famer’s club in 2009.
Gordon is the most talented quarterback to have played in the league since Peyton Manning and Aaron Hernandez, who have amassed 1,527,531 passing yards, 8,717 yards and 15 touchdowns respectively.
Gordon has the ability to throw for 4,928 yards and 22 touchdowns with just 10 interceptions in his career.
But the NFL doesn’t see things that way.
Gordon, who’s currently serving a suspension for violating the league drug policy, is the best passer in the game.
It’s his talent that makes him so special.
But it’s also the lack of recognition that’s held Gordon back from being considered among the best quarterbacks in history.
“The first year [I played in a pro game], there were some guys who got attention, but the most talent [was] behind them,” Gordon said during a recent interview with ESPN’s The Herd.
“The biggest thing for me is the guys around me, guys like [former Houston Texans quarterback] Brian Hoyer, [former Green Bay Packers quarterback] Brett Favre and [former New York Giants quarterback] Eli Manning.
You can have all the talent, but when you get a guy like that, it’s just not enough.
It just doesn’t work.
It really doesn’t.”
Gordon has the opportunity to change that.
But with a suspension looming, Gordon will likely have to take the field as soon as next season, which would put him at a disadvantage.
The reason that Gordon hasn’t had the most consistent production in the history of the league is because he’s been suspended.
He could be a lock for a Pro Bowl spot this season if he can earn a full roster spot, but he’ll need to play at an extremely high level to get there.
“There are a lot of guys who have been suspended, and some guys have come back from that,” Gordon explained.
“I think that will be the case this year.
I know they’re going to be looking for a lot more out of me this year, because I’ll be coming back on defense, I’ll also be trying to be a good teammate and just be more focused and get back to playing at a high level.”
Gordon is one of only five players in NFL history to have thrown for more than 1,000 yards in a season and pass for 1,200 yards in two straight seasons.
He has a chance to surpass those records in his first season back after missing all of 2015 with a torn ACL.
“I think it’s a great thing for the NFL,” Gordon added.
“A lot of quarterbacks don’t get the credit they deserve for having that kind of talent.
The best quarterbacks get the most recognition, and it’s hard for a guy to be the best because he can’t play.
That’s just my opinion, but I think I can play at that level.
I’ve got a lot to learn, but if I can make a big jump in my first season, I feel like I’m going to take that next step and hopefully make the next step.”
Gordon also admitted he doesn’t think he’ll be the first player to get a Pro Football hall of fame nod.
“It’s going to go to some of the best guys in the world,” he said.
“We’ve got guys like Mike Tyson, Joe Montana, [Roger] Staubach, and Brett Favres.
So I think it will be an honor to be on that list.
But I’m not going to sit here and say, ‘I’m going [to be] the first.’
I know that’s
