The sport is currently played at the Palmerston North end of the state, but the New Zealand Football Association (NZFA) is planning to bring it to Auckland later this year.
New Zealand is a small country with a population of about 1.4 million, and has only seven teams.
But the sport has attracted some of the best players in the world.

New Zealand has a record of 16 wins from 11 matches in this year’s Super Rugby competition, with two wins in five matches, while a victory in their opening game against the Chiefs saw them go on to win by five points.
“The biggest thing that’s going to be good for the Kiwi team this season is that they’re playing with so much confidence.
They’ve got a great coach, great players and it’s been good to see them getting back into the game,” said New Zealander Kiwi Mark Thompson.
“If we don’t make the finals this year, that’s the last thing we’re going to look forward to.
That’s where the confidence comes from.”
– Kia Fonoa scored two tries in the first half to lift New Zealand to a 23-20 victory over England at Eden Park on Saturday.
Fonua scored his third try in the second half and he also scored New Zealand’s first try in extra time.
New Zealanders’ head coach John Kirwan was pleased with the performance of his team and the way they played, but was also pleased with their ability to win.
“I thought it was good to get them back in the game, and I thought it worked well in the two phases that we had in the match,” Kirwan said.
“The last three phases in the last half, we got a lot of momentum.
It’s really good to have that momentum.”
When you get that momentum, you can take it from the outside in.
We have got some guys who can do that and they can take the game to the other team, so we’ll see what happens.
” – Bennett is set to make his international debut for the All Blacks, who face England in Wellington on November 6.
The All Blacks were ranked eighth in the latest World Rugby rankings, just two points behind the Kiwies.
They are still just four points off top spot with seven matches to play.
Bennetts is currently ranked fourth in the All Black team rankings, behind Trent Hodkinson (20), Tom Wood (21) and Aaron Smith (22).
-The All Black squad is set for a tough run through the next three rounds of the World Cup with the tour to New Zealand scheduled to begin on November 9, with matches against Argentina and France set for November 18 and November 22.
Bennett, who has scored a try in three of the last four games for New Zealand, is set to start the first two games of the tour in Wellington and the first three games in Auckland.
